Summary:
Develops complete major layout and engineering drawings of complicated components and assemblies such as schematics, interconnect lists, parts breakdown, printed circuit board layouts, wire lists, etc., from notes, rough sketches, or general instructions of engineers and designers.

Makes mathematical calculations as required. Determines scaling, inserts necessary reference planes, centering and dimension lines, hidden line interpolations and sectioning. May use special techniques in schematic drawing, isometric, orthographic, perspective projection or other techniques of technical illustration. Contributes design modifications to improve quality of product or manufacturing operation. Working knowledge of tolerances, materials, finishes, etc. May provide work leadership to lower level drafters.

Responsibilities:
  • Include experience in producing manufacturing, assembly, installation, and operation type drawings.
  • Capable of working closely with design originators in the preparation of drawings of unusual, complex, and original designs, which require a high degree of precision.
  • Possess experience in the use of AutoCAD software.
  • Capable of independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent, as well as, producing and modifying standard USCG shipboard and shore drawings.

Requirements:
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software, graduate of an accredited drafting program or completion of CAD program from an accredited school/university.
  • 6 years of experience in the submission of USCG or USN technical drawings.
  • 4 years of experience to include layouts, illustrations, wiring diagrams, and electrical machine and sheet metal shop fabrication drawings.

Preferred Skills:
Independent judgment in selecting and interpretting data based on knowledge of the design intent, as well as producing and modifying standard USCG shipboard and shore drawings.

Job Requirements

Years of experience in lieu of a degree:
Four (4) years experience in the submission of USCG technical drawings may be substituted lieu of the high school diploma or accredited Technical School. A minimum of four (4) years drafting experience to include layouts, illustrations, wiring diagrams, and electrical machine and sheet metal shop, fabrication drawings.
